Thesis Statement!!

It is my contention that Muhammad Ali was a great boxer but he was also a person who stood up for what he believed in. He is identified as a political activist and even a famous boxer who resisted the Vietnam Draft. He has helped people stand up for what they believed in and even stand up to the government. Muhammad Ali is a great role model for people all over world.

5.When We Were Kings. Dir. Leon Gast. Perf. Muhammad Ali. DVD. Gramercy Pictures, 1996.

This movie was about Muhammad Ali and how he had such an impact on so many kids lives in the 60's and in the 70's. Muhammad Ali and George Forman had fought and in the movie, and by watching the movie I had got a better understanding of who really won it and what actually happened.  This was the best movie I had ever seen.

This website was a very good one that I had found a lot of information on. This site gave a lot of information on his personal life, career, awards, writings, and biographical information. This website was very good in the beginning but I had already had a lot of this information already from his official site and his book which was the best two sources I found so far.

This website was so awesome. It gave me so much imformation on who Muhammad Ali was, when he was born, he dreams for the future and much more. Muhammad Ali is a three time World heavyweight Champion. His real name is Cassius Clay, this man is a very powerful man in history and he has done a lot for african american over the years. Muhammad Ali has wrote his name in the history of boxing.

This website that I had visited was the official website of Muhammad Ali. It talked about everything from being The Legend to The Boxer. Back in the day Muhammad Ali was know for one of the best boxers of all times. He was very light on his feet but his punches(left jab) stung like a bee. This website also has a timeline from 1942-present and it gives you very important and specific details about what he has done throughout his lifetime. This website also gave me a variety of photos and viedos of Muhammad Ali and this boxing career. The website is an awesome site and I will be using it a lot for NHD!!

2. Myers, Walter. The Greatest. New York: Scholastic Inc., 1996.

This annotaion is one from the book by Walter Dean Myers who is a two-time newberry- honor award winner. Walter is nominated for this book that he has written, which is about Muhammad Ali. This book is called "The Greatest". This book has really helped me on some of the research I have got done for my National History Day project. So far, this book talks about how he became a symbol of the antiwar movement-and a defender of civil rights. As "The Greatest", he was a boxer of undeniable talent and courage. This book also talks about his childhood in the segregated South to his current fight with Parkinson's disease. One quote from the book is "float like a butterfly sting like a bee!" This quotes means that he whould dance on the ring on his toes(float a butterfly). And his punches would (sting like a bee), the came and hit you so quick and powerfully especially his left handed jab.

Analyzing!!

The article was helpful to my research because it gave me a lot of information and who he was as an individual and what he had gone through to get this far in life. It is secondary because they was not there at the time of the event.

Topic selection post

I choose Muhammad Ali for my NHD project because I am interesting in what he has done and all that he has gone through throughout his life. He is important to history because without his efforts, some people would give up on life but because on him they did not. Muhammad Ali is still the most recognizable man on earth. Over forty years after he burst onto the scene as a gold- medal winner at the 1960 Rome Olympics, muhammad Ali remains a magical figure, known and loved throughout the world. For this week's research, I found an article at his official website. And I also found a book that tells a lot about his life and what he has gone through. I will read and summarize it for next week.

Independent Service Learning Hours!!!!!!!!!!!

Who am I? What are my values? I am a young african american abitious young lady that whatever I put my mind to I can do it. And that I can do anything I can put my mind to.


What have you learned about this agency, these people, or the community? I have learned that working a helping young children you have to have a lot of patience and you have to try to keep your cool because somethimes it seems like you keep on repeating yourself and they still do not hear you but it is fun and I learned how to handle it.

What are three big issues that create problems that ouer serice is trying to adderss? Well my service(independent) was helping kids and i had a very good time. Three big issues that create problems is people not having patinene, knowledge, understanding, and wisdom..... children are special and they are are future.

D. Through service learning I have learned the following about myself:

Through service learning I have learned a lot about myself. I think that the most important thing that I learned about myself was being patient and not waiting to the last minute to do certain tasks. I think that when you are in a very large group of people you have to learn to listen to everyone and there point of view on the situation....

I have learned a lot about our groups topic and how so many children(young) are dying and become very ill from cancer. I have learned a lot about myself through service learning, i have learned that I can do it as long as I just put my mind to it. If I were in charge of this group I would have planned a much larger fundraiser and had more people and organizations come out and support my group..

SERVICE LEARNING!!!!!

This week in service learning we talked about how want to maybe start going to Children Hospital and read, talk, and even play games with children who have cancer and are in the hospital. We also talked about how we want raise more money for the awareness of cancer by trying to sale hot dogs and other stuff during our lunch period.

In service leaning we did a lot. We talked about how we want to maybe do another fundraiser next year which would be bigger and better than the one we had this year. We also talked about how much we had made and what we plan on doing next to still raise money for children with cancer.

Last week in service learning we talked about what we plan on doing next year, what happened at the fair, who was there, the weather, what we could have did differently and what we plan on doing for the rest of the year in our service learning group. We had fun last week!!!!

Service Learning Reflection

In service learning this week we had a great time!! We talked about what we are going to do to try to make the event go as planned. Also everyone in the group passed out flyers to everyone on each floor and we talked about the event to each classroom. And then we talked about who was going to do what and also discussed how if it rain we do not have to come we will just have it next saturday.

What was successful and useful about the meeting? what was successful and useful about this meeting was that we were able to come together and talk about our Fundraiser which is on Saturday May 3, 2008.

What challenges or problems did you encounter? some challenges and problems I faced was the fact that we did not have a lot of time to plan this fundraiser and we did not all come to an understanding about the date it was as if the date was just set without any of use coming together and talking about.

What needs to be worked on for the coming weeks? what we plan on doing next to help kids with cancer after this fundraiser.

What role will you play in the group? I am not sure what role I will play in my group yet.

Service Learning

In our service learning groups last week we planned what we were going to do on May 3 with is the day we plan on having a fundraiser for children with cancer. We also talked about how we plan on getting money from different organizations and how we want everything to be set up and also what we expect everyone to bring for the event.

SERVICE LEARNING!!!!!!

I am very very interested in completing 15 hours for my service learning project. I have looked on the internet and searched for ideas and I really only found to that I was interested in. One was child care providing because I love children and two was helping out my community. I cannot wait until service learning began. I am also interested in working with Bridget.

NHD REFLECTION!!!

I feel that the NHD project was very stressful and was a lot of work even though we had three months to complete the project. I thought by writing a paper it would have been the easy way out but is wasn't, it was just as stressful as the documentary, exhibit, and performance. One thing that I learned from this project was organization and time management.I am just so glad that NHD is over and I do not want to see it again until next year. I hope that my school mates and I do well in the competition!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!
